The importance of changing the brake fluid

The car's braking system is one of the elements that you need to make sure works perfectly.

Brake fluid is so important because it maintains the proper height of the brake pedal. More specifically, being a hydraulic fluid, it drives the pressure that results during braking to the cylinders in the vehicle's braking system. Another benefit that the use of brake fluid brings is the fact that it prevents premature wear of the pads and other elements involved in the braking process. It contains substances that give it resistance to heat, but also to cold.

On the other hand, these characteristics change over time, because the brake fluid is hygroscopic, that is, it has the ability to absorb moisture from the air, which leads to the lowering of its boiling point. The effect is ineffective braking, which most likely means that the fluid level needs to be topped up.

Usually, it is replaced once every 2-3 years or when the threshold of 12,000 km has been reached. When its level drops before this period, it can be topped up. This decrease is perfectly normal and is caused by the wear of the brake pads, but the repeated decrease and in large quantities is the first sign of a malfunction in the braking system.
